Because of the way this management company has been treating us, we filled an appeal.

The Sale of the Building

This is the story of the gentrification of three apartment buildings on Kling street in Valley Village California. I have live here for more than 7 years now. It's an old neglected building. The landlord, Menachem Schilit, has been trying to sell my building. Menachem, or Mindy as he is known, owned 3 rundown properties on Kling St. 11915, 11930 and 11935. The buildings are old, built in the 60s and last updated in the 70's and though Mindy was a slumlord, he stayed away and left us alone. There are 24 +26 + 24 units. Two Curious Points

Yes our buildings are ugly but they are rent controlled and affordable to the 74 families that live in them. And yes this is prime real estate. There is only one of the original single-family homes left on the block. Through the years they were sold off, completely cleared, and turned into apartment buildings. This was an empty lot next-door when we moved in in 2011. Now it is 46 apartments going for $2,200 and up. This was a single-family home that sold for just over a million soon to be 22 condos. Is it any wonder someone saw the potential? First Curious Point: As of now there are 5 empty units in our buildings that are not being advertised for rent. There is 1 in our building and 2 in both of the others and yet nowhere are they listed as being available. In fact every rental site list the addresses as having no availability. Our Words Have Power! Because of Our Complaints We Now We Have a Manager to Take Rent!

One of the only ways to remove a tenet from a rent control building is by Non-payment of Rent or Habitual Late Payment of Rent. By not having a manager on site, we either had to take our chance with the mail or the "3rd Party" portal which was not reliable and not held accountable as it was run supposedly by a third party (and it had failed for both Anne and Karen and left them in stressful straits), or drive payment over the hill to the office on Venice and hand-deliver it to the desk. By not having a manager on site, Power Property Management was making it very hard for us to pay the rent.
