At 7:30 am a grounds crew came with chain saws and started cutting the trees down. Several of us protested. We insisted they stop. We asked to see their permit which they did not have. My neighbor called the police and we stood in front of the trees, blocking them with our bodies while we waited for the police. While we were waiting my neighbor and I called our councilman, Paul Krekorian's office (818) 766-7185 www.paulkrekorian.org But as it is July 5 the offices were closed until Monday.
An hour later the police arrived. They calmly told us it was private property and there was nothing we could do.
I did not listen. I emailed the Tree People. I contacted the the news.

I spammed them all with a human interest story about greed and the growing homeless problem and how they might be interested in, that the owner of our building, Menachem Schilit, had sold our building and that a new company, Power Property Management, announced they were taking over. And how they promptly removed our managers, recycling cans, pool service and now there is a note on all 3 building from the gas company saying the bill has not been paid.
And then I told them how the crew was cutting down our beautiful mature trees. Trees that give this building shade and charm and now without any notice, a grounds crew is cutting them down...
I pleaded for help. Sent photos. Told of the giant Pines next-door that were coming down next and how if they hurried they could get a good story with live footage...
No one replied.
